About Niek Design Group®

We bring strategy, product design, and engineering together to keep the business goal intact from the first conversation to what ships.

Niek Design Group is a product design studio in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Built around one simple construct: design and engineering work better as one discipline than two.

01 / Why NDG Exists

Handoffs dilute the goal. So we stopped separating them.

Most digital products pass through a lot of hands before they ship. A strategist defines the business goal. A designer shapes the experience. An engineer determines what is actually feasible. Everyone can do their job well and the original goal can still get lost somewhere between those steps. What ships may solve the design problem without fully solving the business problem that started the work.

Niek Design Group was built around a different way of working. Strategy, design, and engineering stay connected throughout the process, with the same understanding of the problem carrying from the first conversation into the final product. The goal is not simply to make something that looks good or works well. It is to make sure what gets built still solves the problem we agreed mattered in the first place.

02 / Our Process

Stay close to the work

One senior point of contact, from first conversation to launch.

Every engagement starts by understanding the business before deciding what to design. We define the goal, understand the people the product needs to serve, and determine what has to be true for the work to be worth building. From there, design and engineering move together, shaped by both the experience they need to create and the realities of what it takes to ship them. That keeps feedback loops short and decisions close to the work. Context stays with the product as it moves from strategy to design to build, which is also why NDG takes on a limited number of engagements at a time. Staying this close to the work requires focus.

How ROI shows up in our process.

01 — BUSINESS

Understand the business first

We define the goal, the people it needs to serve, and what has to be true for the investment to pay off.

02 — DESIGN

Design and engineering move together

Fewer handoffs means fewer costly revisions later. Ideas are shaped around both the experience and what it actually takes to ship them.

03 — CONTEXT

Context stays with the product

Nothing gets lost in translation between design and build, so you can track it against real KPIs such as conversion rate, time-to-launch, and revision cycles, instead of guessing at progress.

03 / The Founder

Dominiek Randall Sr.

Founder & Design Engineer

I've spent more than 16 years designing and building digital products for startups figuring out what to build next and enterprise teams trying to move established products forward. Over that time, I started noticing that the strongest teams were not necessarily the ones with the most people or the longest process. They were the teams where strategy, design, and engineering understood the same goal.

When that understanding was there, products moved faster and decisions became clearer. More importantly, a launch created a signal for what to do next instead of becoming the end of the process. Teams could see what worked, learn from what did not, and keep improving the product without losing sight of why they built it in the first place.

That experience became the foundation for Niek Design Group. I built the studio around the way I believe digital products should be made: understand the business problem, design the right experience, stay close to the technology, ship, learn, and improve. I still work that way with every team NDG partners with, close enough to the build to know what is real and close enough to the design to know what matters.
